The authors of this blog are students of ELT Research and Methodology at the University of Graz in Austria who are on an excursion to the IATEFL conference 2017 in Glasgow. On this blog, they share and reflect on their experiences on this trip.
The section “ELT-Research and Methodology” offers courses in the field of methodology of teaching language and culture. The courses in this section are compulsory for students in the teaching degree program. They form an important part of the program and aim to devolop the future teachers’ awareness, knowledge and competence in the teaching of English as a foreign language. In all our courses, students are trained to reflect about their own language learning experiences as well as possible methods they might use as language teachers.
The University of Graz is Austria’s second oldest university and one of the largest in the country. The University, which was founded in 1585, has been the academic home of many excellent scientists, amongst them six Nobel laureates, who have taught and researched here.
With 32,500 students and 4,300 employees, the University of Graz makes a significant contribution to the Vibrant life of the Styrian capital. Its location in Europe encourages a lively scientific, economic and cultural exchange with South-East Europe, from which not only the city benefits, but also its educational institutions.
